Feuillet In response to Jean M. When starting up Windows with Parallels the numeric keypad works as expected so it is not a hardware problem. Page content loaded. I would try going into your keyboard settings under System Preferences and see if any of the settings there helps you. One way to figure out if it is picking up the right keyboard is to go to 'Modifier Keys' and see what keyboard it is listing.
Then go to USB, which is where you should find info on your keyboard to see what it is reporting. That should at least give you a better idea of what may or may not be going on. In System Preferences, the Modifier Keys were at default. I'm using the U. Extended input source and when I load the keyboard viewer I can see which keys are recognized while typing.
For the numeric keypad, the number keys do not work, but all the keys around the keypad work.
But not the numbers. It's really weird because it was working fine with I don't see a Num Lock key on this keyboard. It must always be ON because there are no other subfunctions for this keypad. I'm wondering if it's a hardware issue.

Most portable computers have a group of keys on the keyboard that can function as the numeric keypad. To find the keypad, look for small numbers or symbols in the lower-right corner of keys on the right side of your keyboard. Press the Num Lock key F6 to turn on the keypad.

The green light glows on the Num Lock key when the keypad is active. Jul 26, PM. This time I did it slowly and the number keys came back on BTW, I did a fresh install of snow leopard on an external hard drive and checked the Mouse Keys setting. You are so very welcome. Check Your Settings
When running windows on parallels, go to the windows start menu - all programs - accesories - ease of access - - - and open the "on screen keyboard". Then activate the numeric keypad and press the num lock key on so that numbers are displayed in the virtual keyboard. Once you do that it should work. I just bought the wireless numeric keyboard and found this issue. Particularly as the numeric keypad was working everywhere else except in excel, the opinion was it must be my outdated version of Excel — which seems fair enough.
Thank you, Paul Horowitz. Simply out of nowhere the numeric pad stopped working. I unchecked it and all is well. Gremlins live in our computers just to challenge us.

Thank you again. It not working. I have two keyboards. Second one is good mechanic ANSI keyboard with real numlock. Both of them are not working. The worst thing is Karabiner not works on Sierra. Thanks for the odd tip of pressing alt or option 5 times. Why I do not know, but it unblocked my keyboard. Please I need help with my Macbook Pro. My keyboard is working perfect except for the numeric no but 0 is working except for the other numbers. Some problem here. I tried all of the suggestions. The numeric keypad works for all applications except MS Excel, which is where I need it most.
The problem started after I used CleanMyMac. I suspect that I deleted a file that was used by Excel. Any suggestions? Keyboard keypad works fine everywhere but the terminal app. Cannot get it to do anything but weird text like mouse keys — but those are turned off.

When I set up a second logon, the number pad stopped working. Now I can enjoy doing my bills at home again…kind of…they are bills after all. My wife had several times this problem in Word only in Word. What did work was deleting the Word preference. Check their site or support forum and see what TF is up? Are you talking about in Windows Bootcamp? I tried shift-clear also and nothing happens. My numpad keys always work no matter what. I just upgraded to IOS8 on my iPad and now my Lodgitech Bluetooth wireless keyboard no longer seems to work with the upgrae.

And speaking of keyboards, this reminds me of the other weird keyboard decision but in the iOS world — the weirdo Caps Lock and Shift key! On an iOS device when the shift key arrow is white and the key is grey you will be typing lower case alpha characters.
Single tap on the shift key to have a single upper case letter. The arrow is black and the key white it is single letter Upper Case. The arrow will be black with an underscore and the key is white.
