You could run a port scan from the mac on your ubuntu computer to check that. Also Ubuntu desktop comes with a VNC server pre-installed. Did you try it? Debian 6. December 11th, 3. What port are you trying to connect to on the Linux machine? Is it ?

Is it a different port that you have to explicitly connect to with the VNC client program. Alternatively, you can try to "telnet" to the appropriate port on the Linux box. When telnet touches a port that's listening, the CLI window will respond differently then it does when the port is not open. Hello, I am getting this same error. I am currently running Windows XP Professional. When I type in the correct port number that displays in my wifi settings on my iPhone, this same error comes up everytime.
I've tried googling help, but I haven't found any helpful information. I had to go through a lot of crap to get the JaaduRDP working and to change settings in my 2wire router.
Just told you this so you'll know that there should be no problem that this program shouldn't work for me. I hope you can help. On the local machine itself, try and telnet to localhost on port to see whether that works. Your past advice did nothing for me to resolve my issue with this error on opening up my iphone via my computer with the VNC Viewer program. It gives me the same error. I tried ports and and nothing. Also, I don't know how to execute nmap.
I think there is a better way on making this error go away. I'm sure it is just a simple setting somewhere. You also can also find out on which display number is using. I think nmap works on Unix flavors. I have started vnc session in my Linux box. When I use 'ps' command I found a process Xvnc is running.

The output of 'nmap' shows vnc is running in port I tried with telnet to port it is ok. But when I use "vncviwer myserver", it shows the same message "Unable to connect to host: Connection refused ". I followed the suggestion to check telnet to port It is working, but still I am seeing this error message.

I have stared vnc desktop in my server. Do you have something else you're not explaining? Can you telnet from the xp box to the Linux box on port ? If that works, then check the local xp box, make sure you have an exception or turn off your windows firewall. Do a traceroute from the xp box to the Linux host. I used the traceroute command and used the next hop address like smoothwal server's address as in the tutorial you have kindly given.
Now it is working in a way that there are 2 biiiiiiiig confusion:. So, I hope to see that window, huh? But xp window opens.
Is it somehow using my xp machine as the vnc server?
